WHAT IS HALFLIGHT?
HALFLIGHT is a tabletop role-playing game where you and several friends assume the identities of characters in a grim and gothic fable.In these borderlands you will write your story, a story about the people of a single small Town and the Dungeon that threatens to consume it. The Dungeon is a roiling font of horrors, a creation of that most primal of evils: The Pit, the embodiment of chaos and entropy in its perfect, unalloyed form. It is all that is antithetical to life as we define it, and Dungeons are the heart of its ever-widening blight.It must be destroyed, and that is the mission you have been charged with. You are the agonists of a diseased world, but be forewarned: The Pit will not meekly yield to its own destruction.
How Do I Play?
HALFLIGHT uses a conventional pair of six-sided dice for all adjudications, instigations, and resolutions. These are always rolled together and their results totaled, giving a range of possibilities from two to twelve with an average result of seven.However, merely rolling the dice will not be enough to ensure your success, or even your survival. For in HALFLIGHT, any roll below an eight is considered a failure, and so to have even an average chance of success you will need to take on and infuse your actions with Grief, the measure of your Character’s mental and emotional strain.Grief can only be taken willingly by Players, and managing it is a key aspect of playing HALFLIGHT. Too little Grief and your Character will lack the raw and ruthless edge needed to survive in the Dungeon; too much Grief and you run the risk of losing yourself to the frenzy of the fight.

Who is the adversary?
The Adversary is the instigator and prime motivator for the actions of the Players. As emissary of The Pit, your job is to create the world, to populate the Town and the Dungeon with interesting non-player characters and enemies, and to present unique challenges for the Characters to overcome... or perish in the attempt.To that end, you will be gifted an arsenal. Your Towns will blossom with warmth and humanity, so as to make even their lowliest bambocciades a welcome respite from the horrors of the Dungeon. Your Dungeons will become monuments to the galvanizing powers of Pain and Grief, a gauntlet worthy of those who dare to challenge it.Let them come. Give them hope.Perdition awaits only those who refuse the call.
What Do I Need?
The full rules of HALFLIGHT are contained in a pair of thirty-six page books, titled Principles of the Player and Arsenal of the Adversary, respectively. These books, along with a pair of six sided dice and some friends, are all that's necessary to play the game.
